JOE KING : COACH / OWNER

Joe is the co-owner and head trainer of Block CrossFit. He has been doing CrossFit for a number of years now. He has been able to turn his love for fitness and his goal of helping others into a career.

From a young age, Joe has always had a passion for fitness. He has been cycling and mountain biking since he could reach the pedals. Cycling led him to start training for triathlons as a young adult. He had heard about CrossFit and began immersing himself in it. Soon it became more than just a passion for fitness, it became a way of life.

BIO COMING SOON.

KELLY READ

COACH

KELLY READ : COACH

Kelly comes from a decidedly nonathletic background. She was not involved in sports or athletics as a child. In college she tried everything from running to pilates, and although she stayed active through her adult years, it was not until finding CrossFit that she developed a true passion for fitness. Kelly has now been doing CrossFit since 2010 and got her CrossFit Level One in August of 2013.

She works as a mild mannered teacher during the day and loves sharing her passion for squats and pull-ups with her students. She still enjoys yoga, donuts and sleeping in, but now also loves picking up heavy things, making progress at Block and watching others become better versions of themselves through hard work and consistency.

Alan Sangma

Coach

Alan Sangma : Coach

Alan sees CrossFit as a way to make the world better one movement at a time.  He sees natural, powerful, and safe movement as foundational to not only better athletics and general fitness but also for overall wellness throughout the length of our lives.  So, if he can tune your mechanics a little or get you to squeeze a bit more power out of your movements, he’s a happy coach.

You could say that Alan’s background is non-athletic.  But it would be more precise to say he has eaten a lot of donuts and smoked a lot of cigarettes.  By the time he started doing CrossFit (2010), he had put in an accumulated twenty years of smoking.  This is perhaps why he views CrossFit the way he does.  He knows that he lives a better life because of CrossFit, and he wants to share that with…well, anyone who’ll listen.

Juana Acosta

Registered Dietitian

Juana Acosta : Registered Dietitian

My passion for health and nutrition began as a young competitive athlete. I found that sports helped me reach my health and personal goals. During college I discovered that my passion for fitness was unfulfilled with sports alone, so I pursued a Master’s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. Now I have a comprehensive understanding of nutrition, performance and health. Upon discovering CrossFit, I instantly fell in love with the sport. I found a desire to progress the athlete’s performance by using holistic and integrated approach to design individualized meal plans that work for the athlete’s unique situation and goals.

I believe that there is no such thing as a one size fits all approach; rather there is an infinite amount of ways to approach diet to accomplish them. I place an emphasis on transitioning the client into a new and improved lifestyle filled with more energy, strength and endurance.

Whether you are looking for fat loss, sport performance, correcting digestive issues, managing diabetes or you are looking to understand proper nutrition that can work for you, feel free to contact me.

Caitlin McKee

Registered Dietitian

Caitlin McKee : Registered Dietitian

I was a competitive gymnast and gymnastics coach for several years. I gradually realized how critically nutrition impacts sports performance and how much misinformation is available to athletes regarding proper nutrition. After having completed my Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science and having worked in the field of Corporate Health and Wellness, I returned to school for my Master’s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics to better understand the Science of Nutrition and share it with other experienced or novice athletes who want to improve their performance.

Athletes and non-athletes alike are bombarded with information regarding a myriad of diets supposedly designed to target weight loss, sports performance, health and disease management without any parameters for deciding what route is appropriate for their individual lifestyle and abilities. My goal is to assist you in assessing how your nutrition is impacting your goals, (whether they be in the realm of performance, weight loss, or health management) and working with you to create a personal, unique plan for your success.

SHALENE ROSIER : ASSISTANT

Shalene has been doing CrossFit since we first started in the backyard. Her knowledge of the gymnastics side of CrossFit is a wonderful addition to the box. She is on her way to getting her CrossFit level one certificate as well as getting her credentials from CSUSB to teach Adapted Physical Education.

Shalene was in gymnastics throughout her youth and eventually started cheerleading as she got older. When she found CrossFit she knew immediately that she was never going back to a normal workout regiment. She has come such a long way from where she first began not only in skill, but also in her knowledge of the movements.
